Old Naples Lights Its Trees Twice: How Third Street and Fifth Avenue Split the 2026 Holiday Kickoff

Third Street South lights its tree on Monday, November 23. Fifth Avenue South lights its tree eleven days later, on Friday, December 4. Each street has its own holiday calendar, and each asks for a different kind of planning.

Third Street's kickoff spreads across a run of weeknights with snowfall at a fixed hour, and nothing needs booking except dinner. Fifth Avenue packs its kickoff into two days, and the main thing to reserve there is a dinner on the Avenue. If you live within walking distance of both, the useful work happens in the weeks before Thanksgiving, and most of it involves Fifth Avenue.

Third Street Opens the Season on a Monday

The Christmas on Third page bills this year as the 49th annual Christmas on Third and wraps it in a larger "North Pole on Third Festival" that runs through Thanksgiving week. The Naples Tree Lighting is set for Monday, November 23, from 6 to 9 p.m., with Third Street South closed to traffic.

The 2026 page doesn't post a minute-by-minute schedule yet, so last year's format is the best guide to how the evening works. For the 48th edition in 2025, Naples Press listed Santa's arrival at 6:15 p.m. and the tree lighting with a Naples Snowfall at 6:20 p.m. The street closed at 3 p.m., shops and restaurants stayed open late, and local vendors sold North Pole treats. The same listing strongly recommended dinner reservations that night. Those times were last year's and may shift for 2026.

The lighting night draws the crowd. The rest of the week tends to suit a neighbor better.

The Rest of Thanksgiving Week Belongs to Neighbors

After Monday, Third Street settles into a routine. The 2026 schedule on the district's page reads like this:

From Tuesday through Saturday, the neighborhood will be filled with the sights and sounds of Christmas. Live Music: 5–8 PM. Snowfall: 7 PM. Shops Open: Until 7 PM. Thanksgiving Day: No programming.

On the 2026 calendar, that means live music and a 7 p.m. snowfall on Tuesday, November 24, Wednesday, November 25, Friday, November 27, and Saturday, November 28. Thanksgiving Day, November 26, is dark. That gives you four evenings to choose from, and none of them involve a closed street or a tree-lighting crowd. Shops close at 7, right when the snow starts, so if you want to shop and see the snow, shop first.

The 2026 page covers Thanksgiving week only. In 2025, snowfall continued past it, Tuesdays through Saturdays in November and Thursdays through Saturdays in December, according to the Naples Press listing. That pattern is a reasonable guess for December 2026, but nothing has confirmed it yet.

Third Street has also added something new this year. The district is now a "North Pole Delivery District." Children can pick up an official Letter to Santa at participating shops from November 25 through December 23 and mail it in one of two places: the mailbox at Fleischmann Plaza near Gattle's or Santa's Workshop near Sea Salt. Santa's Elves will choose one child to receive a surprise. Since the letters run through December 23, they give families a reason to return to Third Street well after the tree is lit.

Sea Salt is a good spot for an early dinner on a snowfall night. The Naples Daily News reported on October 26 that the restaurant has reopened after its summer closure, with new furnishings, an artistic centerpiece and an updated culinary concept.

Fifth Avenue's Kickoff Comes Down to a Reservation

Fifth Avenue South works on a different principle. The Christmas page sets the Christmas Walk for Friday, December 4, from 5 to 10 p.m., and Saturday, December 5, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. The tree lighting begins at about 6 p.m. on Friday.

The detail that needs action now is dinner. Participating restaurants serve dinners on the Avenue during the event, and every reservation goes directly through the individual restaurant. The 2026 list has 18 names: Bistro 821, Caffe Milano, Casa Neri, Chops City Grill, DelMar, Keewaydin's, La Pescheria, La Trattoria, Le Colonial, Molto, Ocean Prime, Osteria Tulia, Ottimo on 5th, Pazzo, Sails, Slice Shop, Tulia Italian Steaks and Vergina.

That's more restaurants than last year. For the 2025 Christmas Walk, Naples Press described long-table dining on the Avenue on both days with 15 participating restaurants. Three more restaurants means more seats, but the event is still two days long, and the best Friday tables near the 6 p.m. lighting are the hardest to get. There's no central booking, so the restaurant you want is the one to call.

Pazzo is on the list, and it's worth checking on directly. Fifth Avenue South announced in mid-October that Pazzo! Cucina Italiana would reopen on October 27 after roof and kitchen work, with an updated menu and lunch service for the first time. Call before you plan around it.

The rest of the weekend's program hasn't been announced. As of this writing, the Christmas page says the day-long Christmas market details are "Coming Soon." In 2025, the City of Naples described the event as a two-day festival with a tree lighting in Sugden Plaza, a live Nativity, Santa and musical entertainment. A Paradise Coast release from October 2025 also promoted a petting zoo, ice skating, live music, a Christmas market and Santa meet-and-greets, and said thousands attend each year. All of that describes last year's event. Nothing about this year's program is confirmed beyond the dates, the lighting time and the restaurant list.

Where the Calendars Overlap

Both streets' plans sit inside a busy six weeks downtown, and on two days this season, separately scheduled events share the same date. Here is the season in order:

  1. November 13–14: Gifted!, a returning holiday-shopping fundraiser at the Naples Woman's Club just off Fifth Avenue. Proceeds support student scholarships.
  2. November 23, 6–9 p.m.: The Third Street South tree lighting, with the street closed to traffic.
  3. November 23, 6–8 p.m.: A MindTravel silent-headphone piano concert with composer and pianist Murray Hidary at Baker Park, 50 Riverside Circle.
  4. November 24–28, except Thanksgiving Day: Live music from 5 to 8 p.m. and a 7 p.m. snowfall on Third Street.
  5. November 25–December 23: Letters to Santa at participating Third Street shops.
  6. December 4–5: The Fifth Avenue South Christmas Walk, with the tree lighting at about 6 p.m. Friday.
  7. December 12, morning: The free 2026 Collier Heart Walk at Baker Park. Festivities start at 8 a.m. and the 5K at 9 a.m.
  8. December 12, 1–3 p.m.: Santa Paws on Third Street. Bring leashed pets for photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus near Sea Salt.

The first shared date is November 23. The MindTravel concert and the Third Street tree lighting start at the same hour, so you'll have to pick one. Because Third Street's snowfall repeats the next four evenings, the concert is the one you can't make up later. The second, December 12, works in your favor: the Heart Walk is in the morning at Baker Park and Santa Paws is in the afternoon on Third Street, so you can do both on foot with lunch in between.

Getting There on Foot, or Close to It

Neither event page lists a parking or shuttle plan. Fifth Avenue South's parking and transit page lists the regular options: garages on 8th Street South at 6th Avenue and at 4th Avenue, a public lot on Park Street at 6th Avenue South, and $10 valet. The page lists the Naples Trolley as running daily from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., which ends before the Christmas Walk's Friday evening program and before every Third Street snowfall.

For anyone who lives in Old Naples, all of this points to walking. Third Street closes to cars on lighting night, and in 2025 it closed at 3 p.m. On Fifth Avenue, the main event is dinner on the Avenue itself. If you can walk to a 6 p.m. tree lighting and walk home after a 7 p.m. snowfall, you can skip the garages that visitors will be filling.
